LDC Watch and its national focal point Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) jointly held a talk program at RRN Head Office today with the aim of disseminating information among the staff members about the global developments on the issues concerning Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the objectives of LDC Watch and its working areas. RRN has been the national focal point of LDC Watch and has hosted the LDC Watch International Secretariat since its establishment in 2001.
The Global Coordinator of LDC Watch Mr. Gauri Pradhan and the Regional Coordinator of South Asian Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE) Mr. Netra Prasad Timsina jointly conducted a presentation session to highlight the global developments on the LDC-related agenda and the advocacy projects run by LDC Watch and South Asian Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE). Mr. Pradhan presented a brief overview of LDCs, and the LDCs’ graduation criteria and emphasised on the need for synergy and coherence between the LDC-specific Istanbul Programme of Action for the Decade 2011-2020 (IPoA) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Informing that LDC Watch is running its advocacy campaigns at national, regional, and global levels, Mr. Pradhan said, “There is a need for a stronger and continued partnership between LDC Watch and Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) to advance our fight for LDCs’ sustainable graduation and development.” Speaking at the event, Mr. Timsina informed that SAAPE has been championing the fight against poverty in the South Asian region and is now running under the administration of LDC Watch.
Closing the session, Executive Director of RRN Mr. Gyan Bahadur Adhikari shed light on the importance of advocacy projects in pressurizing the government in making pro-people decisions.
The two-hour-long program was attended by staff members from Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) Head Office and LDC Watch International Secretariat. A constructive discussion took place towards the end with active participation from the staff members of RRN. LDC Watch would like to thank the Executive Director of RRN Mr. Gyan Bahadur Adhikari and the staff members for making the program a success.
