The LDC Civil Society Forum, as part of the Mid-Term Review of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries (IPoA), concluded on 28th of May 2016 by submitting the civil society declaration to the Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS), Mr Gyan Chandra Acharya.
The LDC Civil Society Forum commenced on the 26th of May with the opening ceremony, where representatives from governments as well as civil society organizations actively participated. The speakers of the Opening Session included Mr. Gauri Pradhan, International Coordinator of LDC Watch, H.E. Mr. Ali Naci Koru, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, the host country of the conference, Mr Masud Bin Momen, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Ms. Bénédicte Frankinet, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of the Kingdom of Belgium to the United Nations, who is one of the co-chairs of the Mid Term Review of the IPoA. Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya, the High Representative of the UNOHRLLS who is also the Secretary General of the Mid Term Review of the IPoA delivered the keynote speech during the opening session. This was followed by four thematic sessions on trade, climate justice, synergy and coherence between IPoA and SDGs, and opportunities and challenges of LDC graduation respectively. On the 28th of May, a session on the draft declaration was organized to finalize the text of the civil society demands in the form of a CSO declaration, which has been handed over to the Secretary General of Mid-Term Review of the IPoA, 2016.
